putting the brakes on

I've been feeling like the calendar is running past me, leaving me in a cloud of dust. I've been trying to slow things down. I am not good at slowing down time. In order to give the illusion of time slowing down, I've been trying to incorporate into those things that will feel like keeping up, an activity which soothes me. See if you can identify the soothers in this list...

Those things which are getting done:

:: The Mini-Stocking Advent Garland is up and filled with goodies, and I will post pictures soon.

:: Some gift knitting and crafting has begun.

:: Meals have been cooked regularly.

:: The doll-house has received a modest amount of holiday decoration. I made a bitty tree from FaLaLaLa Felt, which I whole-heartedly recommend! Hana and I made some tiny polymer clay gifts to put in some origami boxes. Hana says her doll family might have Christmas every day until Christmas because "they don't understand about waiting, Mom." Of course.

However, some things are not getting done (note the lack of soothers):

:: Tidying; I can no longer really see the surface of the coffee table.

:: Some gift knitting and crafting has not begun (see, there goes that time again!).

:: The people-house has not received even a modest amount of holiday decoration. Unless, of course, you consider that the doll-house is actually part of the people-house....

It really is no wonder that I feel the world speeding by me; I'm sitting here by the highway fiddling happily with my hands busy with needles, wool, and food! Did you think I was complaining? ;-)

All kidding aside, please excuse my absense here lately, i've been enjoying the view here from the side of the road...

I am right there with you—going back and forth from the need-to, the want-to, and should. Although, as the state of my house can verify, I've been much more attentive to the want-to than anything else lately—as it should be at this time of year, I think (otherwise the fun stuff would never get done). It sounds like you are striking a perfect balance to me—love thinking of you and Hana huddled around the doll house and decking it's teeny halls.
Be good to yourself this week and take plenty of time to celebrate one of my favorite people (you, of course). I'll be thinking of you.xo—alison

It sounds like a perfect start to the holiday season with the priorities in just the right order. My three have been busy getting their world of miniatures decorated for the holidas as well and today we are getting out the treasured stash of christmas books. your home always reminded me of a little storybook home filled with yummy smells, warm colors and lots of wooly goodness!

Our dollhouse families are celebrating Christmas too! The girls have been trying to figure out how to make them Christmas trees. As soon as I mentioned make some out of wool felt they turned into total chatterboxes, completely overexcited! Maybe we will get to that project tomorrow, cause I'm with you, some creating has begun, and some really has not!

I'm with you when it comes to putting the breaks on. we can only get so much done before the holidays. i'm taking it easy this year and will be okay with the gifts and projects that will not be made because all the kiddos truly need is a calm and happy mama. You have a lovely space here. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
